Club members enjoyed a day of spectacular tennis as the 2024 Club Championships draws came to an exciting finale on 30th June.
The Men’s Singles event featured defending champion and club coach Tom Pullen against 18-year-old Academy graduate Ewan Grieve. Leftie Ewan used his swinging serve and big forehand to take the first set 6-4 while Tom staged a 6-1 come back in the second, using his trademark guile and finesse to defuse the youngster’s formidable weapons. At one set all, the match was decided by a ten point shoot out with Ewan winning.
Similarly, the Ladies Singles event also went to three sets. Ladies first team captain Antoinette Chastang (22) beat Ella Yu 1-6 6-4 10-8 to win the title for the second time.
The Mixed Doubles final also went to a thrilling tie-break conclusion with youngsters Mihai Bradu and Ella Yu, both 17, beating the defending title holders Antoinette Chastang and Joe Cooper 3-6 6-4 10-7.
The Men’s Doubles final was won for the 4th successive year by Alexis Chastang. Returning home after a freshman year playing US collegiate tennis, Alexis teamed up with Mihai Bradu to beat coaches Will Carnegie and Tom Pullen 6-2 6-2.
